Hello flocks, welcome back!!!

Linkers - Part III

Today's blog is a discussion on comparison linkers, sequence linkers, time linkers and example linkers.

Linkers based on Comparison (Comparison linkers)

It is a linker which identifies the similarity between two ideas. Few of these linkers are similarly, like wise, as with, equally, by comparison, when compared to, on the other hand, in the same way and equally.

  • She paid the admission fee, on the other hand she did not attend the conference.

Linkers  based on Sequence ( Sequence linkers)

It is a linker which establishes a sequence and exclaims the ideas of the sentence with priority. Such linkers are first, second, third, next, then, following, now, at this point, after,  after this, subsequently and eventually.

Examples

  • I reached the station only after the train has arrived.
  • I earnestly hope that what you're saying is true, but I am a bit doubtful at this point.

Linkers based on Time (Time Linkers)

These are the linkers which indicate time and frequency of events, such linkers are at once, immediately, meanwhile, at length, in the meantime, at the same time, in the end, when, then, as, before that, after and after that.

Examples

  • The hospital will arrange for blood in the meantime you arrange money for the operation.
  • They spoke at length, reviewing the entire incident.
  • Immediately after the bell rang, the students left the room.

Linkers based on Examples ( Example linker)

These linkers aids  to  introduce the  illustrations in support of the main idea, such kind of linkers are for example, such as, for instance,  in this case, in another case, on this occasion, in this situation,  in this manner and to illustrate.

Examples

  • I think he is a studious person; for example, he has cleared his group exams in first attempt.
  • You cannot rely on her; for instance, she arrived an hour late for an important meeting yesterday.
  •  Earning money in this manner is not appreciable.
