                                                     English Phrasal Verbs 

 Take away

        Meaning:

-         To remove from a place

-         To make something disappear

-         To subtract                             

For Example:

1.   The protesters were arrested and taken away by the police.

2.   The teacher took my phone away until the end of the class.

3.   I need something to take away the pain I have in my foot.

4.   If you take away five from ten, then you will have five.

5.   I usually take medicine to take away my pain.

Take on

          Meaning:
            -         To accept additional  responsibility

-         To add; to acquire  

-         To fight or compete against

-         To begin to have the appearance of 

For Example:

1.   I want to have a good academic record so I wish to take on additional responsibility.  

2.   I will take on the project if you don’t want to.

3.   Stores often take on extra employees during festival time.

4.   Small companies take on their positions with their innovative skills.

5.   The boxer challenged his opponent to take him on in the ring.

Look After

Meaning:            

-   To take care of someone    

-        Watch or protect to keep safe  

-         Be able to look after yourself

-         To be responsible for something 

 For Example:

1.   My son went on vacation so I have to look after his work.

2.   Priya will look after my child when I am in the shower.

3.   The students should look after their responsibilities along with their studies.

4.   Don’t worry about me, I can look after myself.

5.   My friend asked me to look after his Children while he was away. 

Dress down

          Meaning:

-         Dress in a casual or informal manner

-         To dress informally

-         To dress casually, especially for the reason of fashion

-         Wear more informal clothes than usual

For Example:

1.   At my job we normally dress down on Saturdays.

2.   I love Saturdays at work because we are allowed to dress down.

3.   We are allowed to dress down in our homes.

4.   In my college, students are not allowed to dress down.

5.   Ramesh is allowed to dress down on his birthday.

6.   The children dressed down today.
