1. Up in the air
Meaning: If a plan is up in the air, you have not yet decided what will happen.
Example:
1.
The whole future of the project is still up in the
air.
2. Our trip is still very much up
in the air.
2. Hang in the balance
Meaning: If the future of
something hangs in the balance, it is uncertain.
Example:
1. The future of the
company hangs in
the balance.
2. Karthick’s career,
much more than mine, hangs
in the balance.
3. Put yourself on the line
Meaning: To
do something that has big personal risks for you.
Example:
1. I’m
putting myself on the line for you here. I could get fired if they find out what we
are up to!
2. Firefighters always
put themselves on the
line every
working day.
Meaning: Very difficult to understand
Example:
1.
I guess I need to call a lawyer because these legal
contracts are as clear
as mud.
2. My teacher’s instructions
were as clear as mud.
