(PART IV)
i) Parts of Speech are types of words in grammar.
ii) There are many different categories in words.
iii) Every word in any sentence is from these categories.
Noun:
Noun is a word that contains:
i) Person
ii) Place
iii) Thing
iv) Idea
Examples:
Sachin – Person
Taj Mahal – Place
Books – Thing
Bravery – Idea
Classification of nouns:
i) Proper and common nouns
ii) Countable and uncountable nouns
iii) Collective nouns
iv) Concrete nouns and abstract nouns
i) Proper noun and common noun:
Proper noun: Name of a particular place or thing.
Example: Sachin, New Grammar Tree (Name of a particular book), Michal Phelps, India
Common noun: Name we give in general to all persons, places or things.
Example: Person, Book, Swimmer, Country, etc.
ii) Collective noun:
Collective noun refers to a group or collection of the same kind.
Example: A bunch of books (Here, bunch is a collection of books), A litter of puppies, A gaggle of geese, A pride of lions, A troop of monkeys, A band of musicians, etc.
