Stress – V
Dear readers, in the previous post, we discussed words
with shift and without a shift in word accent. In this post, let us learn about
the word accent/stress in English. Pronouncing English words with a proper accent
makes one’s language stylish and it will sound intelligible. Speaking with good
pronunciation strengthens one’s confidence level in terms of communication in English.
Words ending with -ion at the end receive primary stress on the
Penultimate Syllable, i.e., second from the last syllable. For example, station
– STAtion, connection – conNECtion.
Practise the following orally by giving more prominence on the capitalized
syllables.
