Word Stress – VI
Dear readers, in the previous post, we discussed words
that end with -ion and their stress patterns. In this post, let us learn about
the word accent/stress patterns for the words which end with -ic, -ical, -ious, -ial in English. Pronouncing English words with proper accent
makes one’s language stylish and it will sound intelligible. Speaking with good
pronunciation strengthens one’s confidence level in terms of communication in
English.
Words ending with -ic, -ical, -ious, -ial receive primary
stress on the Syllable before the Suffix, i.e., second from the last syllable. For
example, logic – LOgic, musical – muSIcal
Practise the following orally by giving more prominence on the capitalized
syllables.
