ENGLISH PHRASAL VERBS

  

                                                                            Phrasal Verbs

-         Fall out with somebody

-         To give in

-         To put somebody down

1.    Fall out with somebody  

-         Means to stop being friends because of an argument that you have had

Example:

1.    I had a fight with my friend and we fell out.

2.    He was my friend, but we fell out after what he did.

3.    We had a stupid fight and fell out.

2.    To give in

-         Means to finally agree to something that you disagreed with in the first place. Not because you are convinced, but because you don’t want to have an argument about it anymore.

Example:

1.    Keep asking and he will finally give in.

2.    My child kept crying all day for that bike. I gave in and brought it for him.   

3.    Give in, and give me what I want!

4.    No matter how much you cry, I won’t give in, Karthick.

3.    To put somebody down

-         Means to try to criticize someone and make them feel bad or less important than others.  

Example:

1.    I hate my boss. He puts me down all the time.

2.    Why did you put me down in front of all those people?

3.    They never put down other companies in their commercials.
