PARTS OF SPEECH
(PART XI)
Preposition:
Preposition is a word that is used to link (provide relationship between) noun/pronoun with other words (noun, verb or adjective) in a sentence. It makes the sentence complete.
Example:

(Here, under is used to link table (which is a noun) and the sitting placement of cat.)
Types of prepositions:
These are divided into three types depending on types of situations – Prepositions of time (When an event occurred? – in, on, at, before, after), Prepositions of place (Where an event/thing is? – under, above, in, on and at) and Preposition of direction (in which direction an event/thing is? - to, into, of and from)
Prepositions of Time:
Examples:
My birthday falls in January.
My vacation ends on Monday.
It gets cold at night.
Prepositions of Place:

Preposition of Direction:
Examples:

He went up the hill.
Prepositional Phrase:
It is a group of words containing prepositions.
Examples:

(Here, through is a preposition, and through the garden is a prepositional phrase)
